Gimbap Ingredients
  • 200g Ground Beef
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 bunch Spinach
  • 100g Pickled Radish (Danmuji)
  • 1/2 Carrot
  • 5 sheets Gimbap Seaweed
  • 2 bowls Cooked Rice (approx. 300g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Wash the spinach thoroughly under running water. Blanch it in boiling water with a pinch of salt for about 1 minute. Drain, rinse with cold water, and squeeze out excess moisture. Chop the spinach into bite-sized pieces and gently toss with sesame oil and salt. Julienne the carrot and stir-fry it in a pan with a little cooking oil and a pinch of salt until tender. Beat the eggs with a pinch of salt, make thin omelets, let them cool, and then cut them into strips.

Step 2

Season the warm cooked rice with sesame oil and salt, mixing well. Seasoning the rice while it’s warm helps the flavors meld beautifully.

Step 3

For each gimbap roll, approximately 1/2 to 2/3 cup of rice is ideal. Using a consistent amount of rice will ensure your gimbap rolls have a uniform shape and won’t burst when rolled.

Step 4

In a separate pan, combine all the beef seasoning ingredients: soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, sesame oil, and black pepper. Mix well, then add the ground beef and marinate. Stir-fry the seasoned beef over medium-low heat until cooked through. Place a sheet of seaweed on a bamboo rolling mat. Spread a thin, even layer of the seasoned rice over the seaweed, leaving a small border at the top. Arrange the cooked beef, egg strips, and stir-fried carrot lengthwise over the rice. Placing about 1/4 cup of the beef between the egg and carrot helps create a balanced filling.

Step 5

On top of the beef, egg, and carrot, neatly arrange the seasoned spinach and pickled radish. It’s important to lay out the ingredients carefully so they don’t mix.

Step 6

Using the bamboo mat, tightly roll the gimbap. Avoid overfilling with rice, as this can cause the roll to break. Add about 1 cup of rice at a time, fill with ingredients, and roll firmly. Consistent rice portioning is key to creating beautifully shaped gimbap. Once rolled, lightly brush the top of the gimbap with sesame oil for a glossy finish. Slice into desired serving sizes and enjoy this delightful homemade gimbap!
