Bread
- 2 Brioche Buns
Salad Ingredients
- 1 cup Shredded Cabbage
- 3 slices Carrot, thinly julienned
- 1/4 Apple, julienned slightly thicker than carrots
- 7cm segment Cucumber, thinly sliced
- 4cm piece Spam, thinly julienned
- 1 Hard-boiled Egg, roughly chopped
- 1 cup Shredded Cabbage
- 3 slices Carrot, thinly julienned
- 1/4 Apple, julienned slightly thicker than carrots
- 7cm segment Cucumber, thinly sliced
- 4cm piece Spam, thinly julienned
- 1 Hard-boiled Egg, roughly chopped
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by preparing the salad vegetables. Finely shred the cabbage and thinly slice the cucumber. To prepare the cucumber, place the slices in a mixture of the sugar, vinegar, and salt for 5 minutes to pickle them slightly. Afterward, squeeze out any excess water to ensure the salad isn’t watery.
Step 2
Julienne the carrots very thinly. For the apple, cut it into julienne strips that are slightly thicker than the carrots – about twice the thickness – for a pleasant texture.
Step 3
Cut the Spam into thin julienne strips, similar in thickness to the carrots. This adds a savory and flavorful element to the salad.
Step 4
Roughly chop the hard-boiled egg into bite-sized pieces. Avoid mashing it too finely; you want some texture when you bite into it.
Step 5
In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, sliced cucumber, julienned carrots, apple, spam, and chopped hard-boiled egg. Sprinkle a little black pepper over the spam for extra flavor.
Step 6
Add the 2 tablespoons of Thousand Island dressing to the bowl. Gently toss all the ingredients together until evenly coated with the dressing. Don’t be afraid to add a little more dressing if the salad seems dry.
Step 7
Slice the brioche buns in half. Toast them lightly in an air fryer preheated to 180°C (356°F) for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. This gives the buns a slightly crisp exterior while keeping the inside soft, creating a wonderful contrast with the salad. (You can also toast them in a regular oven or a pan.)
Step 8
Generously fill the toasted brioche buns with the prepared salad. Pack it in as much as you can! Now, enjoy your delicious homemade Sarada bread.
