Silken Tofu with Special Savory Sauce
A Healthy and Light Meal! Sundubu with Delicious Seasoning Sauce
I’d like to introduce a simple recipe for Todang Sundubu (a regional specialty of soft tofu) and its accompanying savory sauce, which is my husband’s absolute favorite. It’s a dish I make immediately whenever he craves Todang Sundubu. I bought a similar type of soft tofu from the supermarket, as ‘Todang Sundubu’ wasn’t available near my home. I’ll show you how to recreate a similar flavor profile to Todang Sundubu, along with a special sauce to complement it!
Todang Sundubu (or similar soft tofu)
- 1/2 block deep-sea water silken tofu (or Todang Sundubu if available)
Seasoning Sauce
- 1/4 onion, finely minced
- 1/4 stalk white part of green onion, finely chopped
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 0.3 Tbsp sugar
- 1.5 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup)
- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- 1/4 onion, finely minced
- 1/4 stalk white part of green onion, finely chopped
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 0.3 Tbsp sugar
- 1.5 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup)
- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This is the deep-sea water silken tofu I purchased from the market. If you have Todang Sundubu, feel free to use that instead. I used about half a block of the deep-sea water silken tofu. Simply heating this in a earthenware pot will give you a flavor very similar to Todang Sundubu. It’s that easy!
Step 2
Now, let’s make the seasoning sauce for our Todang Sundubu. First, finely mince the onion and then finely chop the green onion. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, 0.3 tablespoons of sugar, and 1.5 tablespoons of plum extract to a bowl. Pour in 4 tablespoons of soy sauce.
Step 3
Add 0.5 tablespoons of sesame oil for a nutty aroma. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning to your preference if needed. It was perfect for my taste, so I didn’t add anything extra. Once the seasoning is to your liking, sprinkle in a pinch of toasted sesame seeds and mix well. Your special Todang Sundubu sauce is now complete!
Step 4
Here is the finished Todang Sundubu seasoning sauce! When you mix this sauce with the warm silken tofu, it creates a wonderfully balanced flavor – savory, nutty, and perfectly seasoned. It’s a delightful combination that you’ll want to enjoy with every bite.
Step 5
Preparing the Todang Sundubu itself is incredibly simple – just heat it up! I quickly made this on a busy morning before heading to work. It’s great because it doesn’t require extra seasoning and is easy to eat. I chose to heat it in an earthenware pot, which kept it wonderfully warm throughout the meal. Adding a little of the special sauce and mixing it makes the flavor twice as good! Its mild and nutty taste will keep you reaching for more. Tofu is also quite filling, so this meal provides a satisfying and not overly heavy experience. Enjoy this light and easily digestible dish with the simple preparation of Todang Sundubu and its accompanying sauce.
