Ingredients
  • 300g bean sprouts
  • 2 Tbsp chopped green onion
  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 Tbsp tuna extract (or fish sauce)
  • 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 0.7 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the bean sprouts thoroughly under running water about three times. Drain them well in a colander. Place the drained bean sprouts in a pot, add 0.5 Tbsp of salt and half a cup of water. Cover the pot and steam the bean sprouts. It’s important not to open the lid while they’re steaming to prevent any unpleasant smell.

Step 2

Once the bean sprouts are steamed, rinse them briefly in cold water to cool them down. (Tip: Don’t soak them in cold water for too long, as it can reduce their crispiness.) Squeeze out any excess water. Place the cooled bean sprouts in a bowl. Add 1 Tbsp of gochugaru, 1 Tbsp of tuna extract, 0.5 Tbsp of minced garlic, 0.7 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds, and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil.

Step 3

Finally, add the 2 Tbsp of chopped green onion. Gently mix everything together with your hands, ensuring the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the bean sprouts. Be careful not to over-mix, as this can make the sprouts mushy. And there you have it – a deliciously crisp and flavorful seasoned bean sprout dish!

Step 4

Transfer the finished seasoned bean sprouts to a serving plate. Sprinkle a little more toasted sesame seeds on top for extra flavor and visual appeal.

Step 5

This red-seasoned bean sprout dish looks as good as it tastes, with the spicy seasoning really awakening your appetite. The combination of the crunchy bean sprouts and the slightly fiery seasoning is absolutely delightful – you won’t be able to stop reaching for more!

Step 6

Bean sprouts are always a go-to when you need a quick side dish! While they’re delicious seasoned simply in white, I personally prefer them seasoned red and spicy like this. They make a fantastic accompaniment to any meal.

Step 7

As the weather gets warmer, I find myself gravitating towards dishes that are quick and easy to prepare. Seasoned bean sprouts are one of the best side dishes you can make without much fuss, even on a hot day. I really enjoyed this dish after a long time, and it certainly boosted my appetite! I hope you all try making this delicious bean sprout recipe too!
