Stir-fried Beef and Mushroom
Baby Food Friendly! Stir-fried Beef and Mushroom Recipe (Great for Rice Balls, Fried Rice, and Rice Bowls too!)
Measurements are based on a standard Korean rice spoon (bab spoon) and teaspoon. I made stir-fried beef and mushrooms as a side dish for my baby. Honestly, this dish is delicious on its own, but its true brilliance lies in its versatility! It’s even better because you can use it to make other dishes like rice balls, fried rice, or rice bowls. When I make this, I often serve it as a side dish, but also transform it into other meals. This time, I made rice balls with it for breakfast.
Main Ingredients
- 40g ground beef
- 4 button mushrooms
- 1/4 stalk green onion
Marinade and Seasoning
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp oligosaccharide
- 1 tsp cooking wine (mirin)
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil
- Sesame seeds, to taste
- 0.5 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp oligosaccharide
- 1 tsp cooking wine (mirin)
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil
- Sesame seeds, to taste
- 0.5 Tbsp cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gently pat the ground beef with paper towels to remove any excess blood. Removing the blood will help reduce any gamey odor and result in a cleaner flavor.
Step 2
To the drained ground beef, add the minced garlic, soy sauce, oligosaccharide, and cooking wine. Mix well to marinate. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 3
Finely chop the washed green onion. Trim the stems off the button mushrooms and dice them into small, bite-sized pieces suitable for a baby. Cutting the mushrooms small will help them absorb the seasoning better and make them easier to eat.
Step 4
Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onion and stir-fry until fragrant. Sautéing the green onion first releases its aromatic oils, enhancing the overall flavor of the dish.
Step 5
Once the green onion is fragrant, add the marinated ground beef. Break it up with a chopstick or spatula to prevent clumping and stir-fry until it’s almost cooked through. It’s important to keep breaking up the meat as it cooks.
Step 6
When the beef is nearly cooked, add the prepared button mushrooms and continue to stir-fry together. Be careful not to overcook, as the mushrooms will release moisture.
Step 7
Once all ingredients are cooked and the liquid has slightly reduced, lower the heat. Add the sesame oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds, then stir-fry for just a moment longer to finish. Adding sesame oil and seeds at the end helps preserve their fresh aroma.
