Main Ingredients
  • Frozen dumplings (your favorite kind)
  • Bean sprouts (1 bag, approx. 200g)
  • Chili pepper (1, seeds removed and finely chopped)
  • Green onion (1/2 stalk, thinly sliced on an angle)
  • Carrot (1/4, thinly julienned)
  • Red cabbage (1/4, thinly julienned)
  • Cooking oil (3 Tbsp)
  • Ground black pepper (a pinch)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Heat 2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the frozen dumplings and cook until golden brown and crispy on both sides, flipping occasionally. Once nicely browned, remove the dumplings from the pan and set aside on a plate.

Step 2

Rinse the bean sprouts gently under running water and drain them well in a colander. Finely chop the chili pepper after removing the seeds. Slice the green onion diagonally. Julienne the carrot and red cabbage thinly. Having all your vegetables prepped and ready makes the stir-frying process smooth and efficient.

Step 3

In the same frying pan, add the remaining 1 Tbsp of cooking oil over medium-low heat. Sauté the minced garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Increase the heat to high, then add the julienned carrots and red cabbage, and sliced green onions. Stir-fry quickly until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp. Season with a pinch of black pepper.

Step 4

Once the vegetables have begun to soften, add the drained bean sprouts and pour in the store-bought stir-fry sauce. Using a pre-made stir-fry sauce makes this dish incredibly easy and flavorful without needing to mix individual seasonings. Adjust the amount of sauce based on its saltiness. Keep the heat on high and stir-fry rapidly to coat everything evenly, ensuring the bean sprouts remain delightfully crunchy.

Step 5

Finally, add the pre-fried dumplings back into the pan. Gently toss everything together to combine the vegetables, dumplings, and sauce. This allows the dumplings to absorb some of the delicious sauce flavors. As soon as everything is well mixed, turn off the heat. Drizzle with sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a final touch of aroma and nutty flavor. Adding these at the end preserves their fragrance.

Step 6

Enjoy this incredibly delicious dish where colorful vegetables and crisp bean sprouts are stir-fried in a savory sauce and served with perfectly pan-fried dumplings! It’s a fantastic alternative to the usual soy sauce dipping for dumplings. Serving this on a cast-iron skillet or a heavy-bottomed pan will keep it wonderfully hot until the last bite. It’s a perfect side dish or a simple yet satisfying meal!
