Tteokkochi Skewers: Sweet & Spicy Grilled Rice Cakes
How to Make Delicious Grilled Tteokkochi Skewers
Let’s make Tteokkochi, a beloved snack for both kids and adults. These grilled rice cake skewers are coated in a mouthwatering sweet and spicy sauce that’s sure to be a hit!
Main Ingredients
- 300g Jorangi tteok (small, round rice cakes), thawed
- 10 Skewers
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s get started on making these irresistible grilled Tteokkochi skewers with a delicious sauce that everyone will love!
Step 2
First, rinse and thaw the frozen Jurangi tteok. Thread 5-6 rice cakes onto each skewer. Lightly grease a frying pan with a little oil. Place the skewered tteok in the pan and pan-fry them over medium-low heat until they are lightly golden brown. A slightly crispy exterior makes them even tastier.
Step 3
While the tteok is frying, let’s prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, combine the gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, ketchup, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated. Brush this sauce generously over the tteok skewers that you’ve just pan-fried. Be careful to control the heat so the sauce doesn’t burn.
Step 4
Place the sauced tteok skewers back in the pan and cook over low heat just until the sauce is absorbed into the tteok and develops a nice glaze. Avoid overcooking, as the sauce can burn easily. And there you have it – delicious sweet and spicy grilled Tteokkochi! A little tip: if you thread sausages between the rice cakes before grilling, you can make something similar to ‘Sotteok Sotteok’. Enjoy your tasty snack!
