Crispy and Savory Outback Cheese Fries
Homemade Outback Cheese Fries: Your Perfect Snack
Enjoy restaurant-quality Outback Cheese Fries right at home! We’ve made these by cutting thick wedges of potato, frying them until golden and crispy, and generously topping with a melty cheese blend. They are the perfect companion for your favorite drinks and will elevate any casual gathering.
Ingredients
- 3 medium potatoes
- 2 handfuls mozzarella cheese (approx. 100-150g)
- 1-2 slices cheddar cheese
- A little bacon or ham (optional, to taste)
- Plenty of cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the potatoes thoroughly. Cut them into thick wedge shapes, similar to steak fries. Place the cut potatoes in cold water and rinse them a few times to remove excess starch. Pat them completely dry with paper towels. Removing moisture is crucial to prevent oil splattering during cooking.
Step 2
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the prepared potato wedges and fry them, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown on all sides and cooked through until fluffy inside. Once cooked, transfer the fries to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. This step ensures extra crispiness.
Step 3
Arrange the drained potato wedges in an oven-safe dish or skillet. Sprinkle a generous amount of mozzarella cheese over the potatoes. Tear the cheddar cheese slices into smaller pieces and scatter them evenly on top. If using bacon or ham, dice it finely and add it over the cheese for an extra layer of flavor.
Step 4
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, with a slightly golden hue. Baking time may vary depending on your oven. If you don’t have an oven, you can cover the skillet and cook over low heat until the cheese melts. Serve immediately while hot for the best experience!
