Main Ingredients
  • 200g Blanched Bean Sprouts

Seasoning Ingredients
  • 1.5 Tbsp Fish Sauce (Kkanari Aekjeot)
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce for Soup (Gukganjang)
  • A pinch of Minced Garlic
  • 0.5 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • 0.5 Tbsp Sesame Oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a pot, add the bean sprouts and water. Pour enough water to cover about half of the bean sprouts. Once the water comes to a boil, cook for about 3 minutes with the lid open. This cooking time helps maintain a crisp texture. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become mushy.

Step 2

Immediately rinse the cooked bean sprouts under cold running water several times to thoroughly remove any residual heat. Drain them well in a colander, then gently squeeze out any excess water with your hands. This step is crucial to prevent the sprouts from becoming watery and to ensure they absorb the seasonings well.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine the drained bean sprouts with minced garlic, fish sauce, and soy sauce for soup. Gently toss and mix with your hands until the seasonings are evenly distributed. Start with 1 tablespoon of fish sauce and taste. If it needs more saltiness, add another half tablespoon to adjust to your preference.

Step 4

Finally, add half a tablespoon of sesame oil and half a tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. Toss gently once more to combine. Your delicious seasoned bean sprouts are ready! Even without salt, the umami from the soy sauce and fish sauce creates a perfectly seasoned and flavorful dish. It’s incredibly tasty and makes a great side for rice!
