You can easily make a simple and healthy turmeric tofu steak using just tofu and turmeric powder! Let’s create a healthy side dish by utilizing turmeric powder, which is excellent for its antioxidant effects. ^^

Ingredients
  • Tofu 200g (firm, for pan-frying recommended)
  • Turmeric powder, a little (adjust to taste)
  • Sea salt or regular salt, a pinch
  • Black pepper, a pinch
  • Brown rice oil or cooking oil, a little

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, lightly rinse the tofu under running water. Then, cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces, approximately 1.5cm thick. Cutting it too thin might cause it to break easily, so maintaining a moderate thickness is recommended.

Step 2

Place the cut tofu pieces on paper towels. This step is crucial for absorbing excess moisture from the tofu, which will help achieve a crispier and golden-brown finish when pan-fried.

Step 3

Wearing disposable gloves, sprinkle sea salt (or regular salt) and black pepper evenly over the surface of the tofu. Gently rub the seasonings into the tofu with your hands to ensure it’s well-seasoned and flavorful.

Step 4

Next, lightly sprinkle turmeric powder onto each side of the tofu. Again, using gloved hands, gently pat the turmeric powder onto all sides of the tofu to coat it evenly. Be mindful of the amount of turmeric powder; too much can impart a slightly bitter taste.

Step 5

(Tip) I used pre-ground turmeric powder for this recipe. Choosing fresh, high-quality turmeric powder will enhance the flavor of your dish.

Step 6

Heat brown rice oil (or your preferred cooking oil) in a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Once the pan is warm, carefully place the turmeric-coated tofu slices in the pan. Pan-fry until golden brown on one side, then flip and cook the other side until equally golden and the tofu is cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.

Step 7

Arrange the beautifully pan-fried turmeric tofu steak on a serving plate. This healthy and delicious side dish is now ready! It’s best enjoyed warm, but it also makes a great topping for rice, turning it into a simple rice bowl. ^^
