Ingredients
- Fresh apples (as desired)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by thoroughly washing the apples. If you plan to leave the peels on for extra nutrients and texture, ensure they are scrubbed very clean. For a softer chip, you can gently peel the apples using a vegetable peeler.
Step 2
Core the apples and slice them into uniform rounds or half-moons, about 0.3-0.4 cm (approximately 1/8 inch) thick. Consistency in thickness is key for even drying. Don’t worry if they seem a bit thin, as they will shrink during the drying process.
Step 3
Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on your dehydrator trays or on a drying rack. Make sure the slices do not overlap to allow for proper air circulation and efficient drying.
Step 4
If using a food dehydrator, set the temperature to 140°F (60°C) and dry for approximately 8-12 hours. Drying time can vary depending on the apple’s moisture content and thickness, as well as your dehydrator’s performance. Check periodically for desired crispness. Alternatively, you can dry them in a well-ventilated area indoors, perhaps near a heat source like a radiator, or use a fan to speed up the process.
Step 5
Once the apple chips are fully dried and crisp, allow them to cool completely before storing. For optimal freshness and crunch, store them in an airtight container or vacuum-sealed bags.
