Main Ingredients
  • 2 sheets flat fish cakes (approx. 150-200g)
  • Small amount of carrot (about 1/4 carrot)
  • Small amount of onion (about 1/4 onion)

Seasoning Ingredients
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce (15ml)
  • 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce (7.5ml)
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic (7.5ml)
  • 1 tsp sugar (5g)
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds (about 1/2 tsp)
  • A little sesame oil (about 1/2 tsp)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the flat fish cakes. Cut them into bite-sized pieces that are easy to eat. Cutting them into 2-3 cm strips will give a nice chewy texture.

Step 2

Next, prepare the carrot and onion to be stir-fried with the fish cakes. Thinly julienne the carrot and slice the onion into strips. Feel free to adjust the vegetable quantities to your preference.

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium heat and add about half a tablespoon of cooking oil. Add the cut fish cakes and begin to stir-fry.

Step 4

Stir-fry the fish cakes slowly over low heat until they become lightly golden brown, as if you’re lightly grilling them. This step enhances their chewy texture and flavor.

Step 5

Once the fish cakes are lightly browned, add the julienned carrots and onions. Don’t overcook the vegetables; just stir them a few times until they are slightly softened, about as much as mixing them in. Aim for about 2-3 tosses.

Step 6

Now it’s time to add the seasoning. Add all the seasoning ingredients listed above to the pan, except for the sesame oil, which will be added at the end (soy sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, sugar).

Step 7

Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes, mixing well with a spatula to ensure the seasoning coats the vegetables and fish cakes evenly. You’ll start to smell the wonderful aroma.

Step 8

Just before turning off the heat, add 2-3 drops of sesame oil and give it one final quick stir. This adds a lovely nutty fragrance, completing your delicious fish cake stir-fry.

Step 9

Serve this delightful dish over warm rice for a satisfying meal, or pack it as a convenient lunchbox side dish! Enjoy your meal.
