Main Ingredients
  • 5 frank sausages
  • 5 sheets of kimbap seaweed
  • 2 bowls of cooked rice
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 sheet of square fish cake
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1/2 carrot

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, crack 3 eggs into a clean bowl. Add a pinch of salt and beat the eggs well until the whites and yolks are thoroughly combined. Using chopsticks to mix them is key for an even texture.

Step 2

Heat a lightly oiled pan and pour in the beaten egg in a thin layer. Cook until golden brown on both sides to make an egg crepe. Once cooled slightly, slice the egg crepe into strips suitable for kimbap.

Step 3

To make the frank sausages delightfully chewy, you can either blanch them in hot water or soak them in cold water for a bit, as shown in the photo, to remove the chill. After blanching or soaking, pat the sausages dry with a paper towel.

Step 4

Wash the cucumber thoroughly, remove the seeds, and then slice it thinly and lengthwise using a mandoline or a knife. Slicing it thinly will help prevent it from breaking when rolling the kimbap and maintain a beautiful shape.

Step 5

Wash the carrot, trim the ends, and julienne it thinly and lengthwise, similar to the cucumber. If your children are picky eaters, you can add a little more carrot.

Step 6

Heat a little cooking oil in a pan and add the julienned carrots. Sauté until the carrots are slightly tender, then season lightly with salt. Sautéing the carrots brings out their natural sweetness, making them taste even better.

Step 7

Slice the square fish cake into strips that match the length of your kimbap. Without adding oil to the pan, sauté the fish cake strips until they are slightly chewy. (Sautéing without oil helps to reduce greasiness.)

Step 8

Now, all the delicious ingredients for your kimbap are ready! Feel free to omit any ingredients you don’t have at home, or enhance your kimbap by adding other ingredients you love. Get creative with your own special kimbap!

Step 9

Season the warm cooked rice with salt and add a generous amount of sesame seeds. Mix everything together thoroughly to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed. Be careful not to make the rice too mushy or too dry.

Step 10

Place a sheet of kimbap seaweed on a bamboo rolling mat. Spread the seasoned rice thinly and evenly over the seaweed, leaving about 1-2 cm of the top edge bare. This uncovered edge will help seal the kimbap roll.

Step 11

Arrange the prepared frank sausages, egg crepe, cucumber, carrot, and sautéed fish cake evenly over the rice. Be mindful not to overfill, as this can cause the kimbap to break. Use the bamboo mat to tightly roll the kimbap from the bottom edge upwards.

Step 12

Your plump and appealing sausage kimbap is now complete! Brush the surface lightly with sesame oil for a glossy finish and an enticing aroma. Slice into bite-sized pieces and enjoy your delicious, chewy frank sausage kimbap!
