- Sesame Seeds, ground 1 Tbsp
- Warm Cooked Rice 2 bowls
Special Bulgogi Marinade
- Pear 1/3 (grated)
- Soy Sauce 5 Tbsp
- Minced Garlic 0.5 Tbsp (1/2 Tbsp)
- Sugar 1 Tbsp
- Plum Extract 2 Tbsp
- Black Pepper, a pinch (a few shakes)
- Pear 1/3 (grated)
- Soy Sauce 5 Tbsp
- Minced Garlic 0.5 Tbsp (1/2 Tbsp)
- Sugar 1 Tbsp
- Plum Extract 2 Tbsp
- Black Pepper, a pinch (a few shakes)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, place the beef in a bowl. Add the grated pear, soy sauce, minced garlic, sugar, plum extract, and black pepper from the ‘Special Bulgogi Marinade’ ingredients. Gently mix and massage the ingredients into the beef with your hands for at least 30 minutes. Marinating this way tenderizes the meat and allows the flavors to penetrate deeply.
Step 2
Next, prepare the vegetables. Slice the green onion thickly. Thinly julienne the carrot and onion. Tear the oyster mushrooms into bite-sized pieces with your hands. Prepping the ingredients beforehand makes the cooking process much smoother.
Step 3
Heat a wide pan over medium heat and add 3 Tbsp of vegetable oil. Add the prepared green onion, carrot, onion, and torn oyster mushrooms. Stir-fry until the vegetables begin to soften and turn slightly translucent. Stir-frying the vegetables first enhances their natural sweetness and improves their texture.
Step 4
When the vegetables are about halfway cooked, add an additional 2 Tbsp of soy sauce and continue to stir-fry. This extra soy sauce adds a glossy sheen and enhances the umami flavor of the vegetables. Stir-fry quickly over high heat at this stage.
Step 5
Now, add the marinated beef to the pan. Using a spatula, break up the meat as it cooks over high heat so it doesn’t clump together. Stir-fry until the beef turns brown and is well combined with the vegetables. Proper heat control is crucial here.
Step 6
Check if the beef and vegetables are fully cooked. Finally, add 1 Tbsp of ground sesame seeds. Stir well to distribute the sesame seeds evenly throughout the mixture, adding a nutty aroma and flavor. Turn off the heat and allow it to cook slightly in the residual heat.
Step 7
Serve the warm cooked rice in a bowl. Generously top the rice with the delicious bulgogi beef and sprinkle with whole sesame seeds for garnish. Enjoy a magnificent beef over rice meal right at home, just like from a restaurant!
