  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients
  • 250g thinly sliced pork belly
  • 1 pack of pre-made Gochujang sauce (or homemade)
  • 7cm white part of a green onion
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup or sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 fresh egg yolk
  • 1 bowl of cooked rice

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables that will add flavor to your rice bowl. Finely chop the green onion and thinly slice or dice the onion. Chopping the vegetables finely helps them cook faster and release more flavor when stir-fried.

Step 2

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped green onion and onion, and stir-fry them together. It’s important to sauté them until the onions become translucent and a sweet aroma fills the air. This process removes any raw onion smell and enhances sweetness.

Step 3

Once the green onion and onion start to release a fragrant aroma, add the 250g of thinly sliced pork belly and begin to stir-fry. Since the pork belly is thin, it cooks quickly. Make sure to break it apart so it doesn’t clump together as you stir-fry.

Step 4

As the pork belly starts to cook, pour the entire packet of pre-made Gochujang sauce directly into the pan. If you don’t have a pre-made sauce, you can certainly use homemade Gochujang. Stir everything together to coat the ingredients evenly.

Step 5

Continue to stir-fry over medium heat, allowing the Gochujang sauce, pork belly, and vegetables to meld together beautifully. Cook until the pork is fully cooked and the sauce has slightly reduced to a thick consistency. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

Step 6

Taste the stir-fried Gochujang pork belly and adjust the seasoning as needed. Gochujang sauce can be quite salty on its own. If it tastes too salty or a bit bland for your preference, add 1 tablespoon of corn syrup or sugar to balance the flavor. This step ensures a well-rounded taste.

Step 7

Place the warm cooked rice in a bowl. Generously spoon the delicious Gochujang pork belly mixture over the rice. Finally, gently place the fresh egg yolk in the center. Your visually appealing and incredibly flavorful Gochujang Pork Belly Rice Bowl is now complete! Break the yolk and mix it with the rice for an even richer taste.
