Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, gently wash the exterior of the watermelon. This step is to remove any dirt or debris from the rind.

Step 2

Remove the top and bottom ends of the watermelon by cutting off the stem and blossom ends.

Step 3

To cut the watermelon easily, hold the knife horizontally and apply gentle pressure as you slice. This method requires less effort and makes cutting through the large fruit much simpler.

Step 4

Slice the watermelon into long wedges, similar to the picture. The ideal thickness for easy eating is about the size of a lipstick, approximately 1-2 cm thick.

Step 5

Now, it’s time to remove the rind. You can do this by carefully ‘tapping’ or slicing off the green peel with your knife. Be cautious as you work your way around the fruit.

Step 6

Once only the vibrant red flesh remains, cut it into bite-sized cubes, about 2-3 cm in size.

Step 7

Place the cubed watermelon into an airtight plastic container and store it in the refrigerator. Your refreshing watermelon is ready to enjoy!

Step 8

As a tip, finely chopping the watermelon rind can help reduce its volume when disposing of it in food waste bags.

Step 9

Let’s now make delicious watermelon juice using the sweet red parts of the rind that were cut off earlier for the watermelon bento. Nothing goes to waste!

Step 10

Add an appropriate amount of sugar to the watermelon in the blender, according to your preference. If it’s not sweet enough, you can omit the sugar or add a touch of honey.

Step 11

Combine the prepared watermelon and sugar in a blender (or use an immersion blender, often called ‘Dokebi Bangmangyi’ in Korea) and blend until smooth. Your sweet and refreshing watermelon juice is complete! Enjoy immediately.
