Are you constantly wondering what to make for your kids’ breakfast, especially with picky eaters at home? This ‘One-Pan Egg Toast’ recipe is a lifesaver! It’s incredibly easy to make using just one pan, minimizing cleanup, and can be ready in about 5 minutes – perfect for busy school mornings. The delightful combination of savory ham, fluffy egg, and sweet strawberry jam is sure to win over even the fussiest eaters. My own child, initially skeptical, gave it two thumbs up after the first bite! Let’s ensure your little ones start their day with a satisfying and delicious breakfast. This recipe is designed to be straightforward and enjoyable for everyone, including beginners.
Main Ingredients
- 2 Eggs
- A little sliced ham (or thinly sliced Spam)
- 4 slices of Bread
- Strawberry jam, to taste
- Ketchup, to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a bowl, crack the 2 eggs. Add a pinch of salt and about 0.5 teaspoon of sugar (using a regular spoon for measurement). Whisk them together until well combined and slightly frothy. This step helps remove the eggy smell and adds a touch of sweetness.
Step 2
Prepare the ham. If you have sandwich ham slices, use them as they are. Otherwise, thinly slice Spam to about 2-3mm thickness. Thinly sliced ham will integrate better into the toast.
Step 3
Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Add a generous amount of butter or cooking oil. (I accidentally used cooking oil, but butter adds a richer flavor).
Step 4
Pour the whisked egg mixture into the heated pan, spreading it out to cover a good portion of the surface. Before the egg is fully cooked, carefully place 2 slices of bread onto the egg. The bread will absorb the egg and begin to cook.
Step 5
While the egg is cooking, use a spatula or flipper to neatly trim any excess egg that has spread beyond the edges of the bread. Then, carefully flip the bread along with the cooked egg. This will help the bread adhere to the egg.
Step 6
Place the remaining 2 slices of bread on top of the cooked egg side. If the egg mixture is still a bit runny, place the sliced ham in the empty parts of the pan to cook alongside the toast. Cooking the ham adds extra flavor to the toast.
Step 7
Once the egg on the bread has set slightly, spread strawberry jam and ketchup onto the egg-covered side of the bread. Adjust the amounts to your liking for a sweet and tangy flavor that kids love.
Step 8
Carefully place the cooked ham and the egg (which you can fold in half if it’s large) inside the bread slices to create a sandwich filling. This ensures a hearty and flavorful center.
Step 9
Now, fold the bread in half, gently pressing to keep the filling secure. Cook the folded toast on both sides over medium-low heat until golden brown and crispy. Cooking slowly ensures the inside is warm and the outside is perfectly toasted.
Step 10
Once both sides of the bread are golden brown and wonderfully crispy, your One-Pan Egg Toast, a perfect breakfast for elementary schoolers, is ready!
Step 11
Cut the toast in half for easier handling. Wrapping the bottom half with parchment paper can help prevent messy fingers while eating.
Step 12
Since we were out of apples, I served it with a banana. It’s always a good idea to include some fruit with breakfast for balanced nutrition!
Step 13
My eldest, who can be quite picky, took a tentative bite and then enthusiastically gave it a big thumbs up! Seeing his positive reaction made me feel proud.
Step 14
The combination of ham, egg, sweet strawberry jam, and tangy ketchup is simply irresistible! My eldest had a filling breakfast and headed off to school energetically today. I hope your children also enjoy a delightful morning with this delicious egg toast!
