- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 Tbsp Soy sauce (jin ganjang)
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp Sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp Hot sauce (adjust to spiciness)
- 2 Tbsp Cooking wine (mirin or rice wine)
- 1/2 cup water (approx. 100ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly rinse the chicken wings under running water. Pat them dry with a paper towel. Drizzle a generous amount of cooking wine over the wings to remove any gamey odor. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. This initial seasoning helps the flavors penetrate the chicken, making them more delicious.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the star of the show – the sauce! In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp gochujang, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 3 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp hot sauce, 2 Tbsp cooking wine, and 1/2 cup water. Whisk everything together until smooth and well combined. Feel free to adjust the sugar and hot sauce amounts to suit your preference for sweetness and spice.
Step 3
Pour the prepared sauce over the pre-seasoned chicken wings. Use your hands to gently toss and coat each wing evenly with the sauce. Let the wings marinate for about 10 to 20 minutes to allow the flavors to soak in. If you have more time, marinating them longer in the refrigerator will result in an even richer taste.
Step 4
Place the marinated chicken wings in a preheated pan over medium-low heat. Cook them slowly, turning them occasionally to ensure they are evenly browned and cooked through. The sauce will thicken and caramelize, giving the wings a beautiful glossy finish.
Step 5
Just before removing from heat, sprinkle the finely chopped Cheongyang chili pepper over the hot wings. The fresh chili adds a burst of spicy flavor that perfectly complements the sweet and savory sauce. Your fiery hot wings are now ready! Enjoy them immediately while they’re hot for the best taste experience.
